I first painted this scene with watercolors (see below). I love this view of Chillicothe from Carlisle Hill and returned to the subject with a larger canvas and oil paints. (Large View)

The Hunter House atop Carlisle Hill.

I had passed this farm hundreds of time while driving back and forth between Chillicothe and Athens. It sits on the south side of US 35 and US 50 just before they cross the Scioto River and move in different directions. This is a view of the farm from Eastern Avenue before it enters the highway. (Large View)

I decided to try a self-portrait with watercolors while fashioned in my new blue corduroy jacket.

This view is looking south while heading east on US 50 on a stretch of the road that bypasses the small village of Ratcliffburg, on the other side of Londonderry.

This farm sits off the west side of Route 104, north of Chillicothe and just south of Andersonville. (Large View)

I captured this view when driving east on Lower Twin Road between South Salem and US 50, west of Chillicothe.

For my first of two paintings, I chose to turn my easel away from the creek and capture the trees and brush above the bank. The sun was having trouble finding room to shine through the the thick foliage. Later, I turned my easel in another direction to capture the muddy creek water beyond the arching trees on the bank and nearer to the creek.
